Join an elite community that operates in the air and under the sea as an enlisted aircrew member and Navy diver. You will perform helicopter sea rescues and execute underwater search, salvage, repair, and demolition missions. Your work will directly support carrier and expeditionary strike groups, mine countermeasures, special operations, and joint partners worldwide.
This is a highly physical, safety-critical career defined by rigorous performance standards. You will frequently operate in demanding environments, including heavy seas, cold and low-visibility waters, flight lines, ship decks, and austere field sites. The role demands a small-team culture where attention to detail, calmness under pressure, and strong leadership potential are essential. You will navigate rapid shifts between precise technical tasks and intense field operations, continuously sustaining qualifications through ongoing training.
Assignments are worldwide, spanning sea and ashore locations. You will work with aviation squadrons, fleet replacement units, and expeditionary detachments. Your daily environment may include flight operations areas, rescue training pools, ocean training sites, dive lockers, recompression chambers, shipyards, ranges, and forward locations. Expect frequent work aboard carriers and auxiliaries, on piers and flight decks, and alongside joint and interagency partners.
Your journey begins with Recruit Training followed by Naval Aircrew Candidate School in Pensacola. Depending on your specific specialty, you will attend Rescue Swimmer preparatory and school, or a Class A School within an assigned aircrew rating pipeline (such as AWF, AWO, AWR, AWS, or AWV). You will also undergo Fleet Replacement Squadron training, survival, evasion, resistance, and escape instruction, and receive ongoing qualification and advanced training in diving, rescue, and mission systems throughout your career.
You can enlist under an advanced technical field or Warrior Challenge style contract that specifies your aircrew, rescue swimmer, or diver training pipeline. Alternatively, qualified Fleet Sailors may volunteer and request conversion into aircrew or diving roles after completing screening, physical testing, and obtaining command endorsement.
The United States Navy is an equal opportunity employer. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status.
