Join an elite community that operates in the air and under the sea. As an enlisted aircrew member and Navy diver, you will perform helicopter sea rescues and execute underwater search, salvage, repair, and demolition missions. Your work directly supports carrier and expeditionary strike groups, mine countermeasures, special operations, and joint partners worldwide.
This position demands a unique blend of precision and resilience. You will operate in highly physical, safety-critical environments ranging from heavy seas and cold, low-visibility waters to flight lines and austere field sites. The role requires rapid shifts between precise technical tasks and demanding field operations.
You will be part of a small team culture where attention to detail, calmness under pressure, and strong leadership potential are essential. Whether conducting deep and saturation diving operations, supervising hyperbaric chamber treatments, or maintaining specialized flight and survival equipment, your work ensures the readiness of the fleet.
Your journey begins with Recruit Training followed by Naval Aircrew Candidate School in Pensacola. Depending on your specific assignment, you will proceed through Rescue Swimmer School or a Class A School within an assigned aircrew rating pipeline (such as AWF, AWO, AWR, AWS, or AWV). You will also undergo Fleet Replacement Squadron training, including survival, evasion, resistance, and escape instruction.
Career development is continuous, with ongoing qualification and advanced training in diving, rescue, and mission systems throughout your service. You may enlist under an advanced technical field or Warrior Challenge style contract specifying your training pipeline, or qualified Fleet Sailors may volunteer for conversion into aircrew or diving roles after screening, physical testing, and command endorsement.
To join this community, you must meet strict eligibility standards, including U.S. citizenship, a high school diploma, and the ability to pass an aviation flight physical and a diving medical exam with Undersea or Diving Medical Officer approval. You must also demonstrate strong swimming ability, comfort in open water, and excellent overall physical condition by passing the Physical Screening Test.
For the most accurate information regarding current incentives, bonuses, and specific eligibility requirements, please contact an official Navy recruiter. They can guide you through the screening process and discuss how your background aligns with the Navy's current needs.
The U.S. Navy is an equal opportunity employer. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.
