This position is dedicated to empowering Special Education students by providing tailored learning activities and experiences that foster their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The role involves developing and modifying curricula to align with individual student ability levels, ensuring every learner has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Teachers in this capacity may work in self-contained classrooms, collaborative team settings, departmental groups, or in an itinerant capacity, adapting their approach to meet the diverse needs of the student population. The position requires a deep commitment to the district's mission, modeling core organizational values to support high student achievement.
Your day will be defined by collaboration and personalized instruction. You will work closely with students, parents, and fellow staff members to develop and implement Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) through the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process. Instruction will be delivered using a variety of strategies and media, including technology, to accommodate different learning styles and disabilities.
Beyond academics, you will play a vital role in student development by supervising personal care needs as outlined in IEPs, managing classroom behavior, and serving as a positive role model. You will also facilitate extracurricular activities and maintain open, professional communication with families and the community. The environment is dynamic, often requiring flexibility to manage multiple IEPs, lesson plans, and classroom activities efficiently while responding calmly to emergencies and interruptions.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university and a valid Texas Teaching Certificate with the required Special Education endorsements. A valid Texas Teacher Certificate in English as a Second Language is preferred and will be required for contract renewal. Applicants should be prepared to demonstrate their knowledge of Special Education laws, behavior intervention strategies, and differentiated instruction techniques.
