This position serves as a dedicated educator within Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS), operating under the general supervision of a principal or designated administrator. The role is designed to plan and implement instructional programs tailored to students with special needs, providing essential educational services that foster growth and achievement.
Teachers in this capacity may instruct single or multi-grade levels, focusing on specific subjects, skills, or specialty areas. While the work is often performed within a collaborative team or departmental setting, some positions allow for independent work in unique teaching specialties. Certain assignments may take place in specialized environments such as science labs, industrial arts/technology centers, or other education labs. These settings require heightened monitoring to ensure student safety and minimize the risk of accidental injury.
The core mission of this role is to create a learning environment conducive to student success. This involves continuously assessing student achievement, maintaining rigorous documentation for institutional and individual reporting, and communicating progress clearly to students and parents. Educators are expected to collaborate with a wide network of professionals—including guidance counselors, librarians, and both school and non-school-based staff—to maximize learning opportunities and support schoolwide initiatives.
Successful candidates will apply current research and theory to instructional programs, aligning their practice with the LCPS curriculum, division mission, goals, and organizational structure. The role demands a deep understanding of pre-adolescent and adolescent growth and development, alongside the ability to utilize multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning experiences. Building and maintaining effective relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents is central to the daily function of this position.
Applicants must hold a valid Virginia or out-of-state teaching license in Special Education, or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license (transcripts required). The selection process prioritizes candidates who demonstrate strong human relations skills, excellent oral and written communication abilities, and the capacity to manage student behavior effectively across various school settings, including grounds and work sites.
Loudoun County Public Schools is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job. The district values the unique perspectives and experiences that all candidates bring to the educational community.
