Grand Rapids Public Schools (GRPS) is dedicated to a singular, powerful mission: to ensure that all scholars are educated, self-directed, and productive members of society. We strive to equip every student with the knowledge, skills, and motivation necessary to direct their own lives, become confident critical thinkers, and contribute meaningfully to a changing global community.
As an Elementary Teacher, you will be the architect of your scholars' academic and social readiness for college and career. This role exists to provide a variety of learning experiences that meet each scholar's unique needs as defined by their educational plan. Working in partnership with the community, you will create challenging and engaging opportunities that inspire mixed-culture and ability classes to perform at their best.
In this position, you will not only teach the required curriculum and differentiate instruction using frameworks like the Danielson Rubric and the Tripod 7 Cs, but you will also serve as a vital link between the school and the wider community. You will foster a positive attitude between the school and families through regular, meaningful contact, ensuring that every scholar feels supported, safe, and valued.
Reporting directly to the building principal, you will collaborate with special education staff to implement individualized education programs (IEPs) and contribute to the school's decision-making processes. Your day will be defined by creating a learning environment that curtails disruptive behaviors, enhances self-esteem, and models the physical, social, and emotional soundness expected of a role model within the school community.
Compensation for this position is determined by a structured salary schedule based on the candidate's degree level and verified years of licensed or certificated experience. The role is part of the Grand Rapids Education Association (GREA) bargaining unit.
Assistance with the application process may be requested through the Human Resources Department at (616) 819-2022 or via email at humanresources@grps.org.
