About the Role

You will join the Education Division of the Massachusetts Department of Correction to deliver essential academic instruction within a secure correctional setting. This role is designed to support adult incarcerated individuals who may face medical, psychosocial, or educational deficits, helping them navigate their educational journey through Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies.

The position requires a unique blend of instructional expertise and the ability to interact professionally with an adult incarcerated population. You will utilize research-based practices and current instructional methods to ensure effective learning, while also managing critical administrative tasks such as student attendance, case plan updates, and standardized testing administration (including TABE and HiSET). Success in this role involves collaborating with administration and other professionals to enhance strategic goals and contribute to the progression of the Division's mission.

Hiring Process & Application

First consideration will be given to applicants who apply within the first 14 days of the posting. Please note that salaries for this union position are determined according to the provisions of the respective collective bargaining agreement.

Eligibility Requirements Applicants must possess a valid Teacher's Certificate issued by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Additionally, candidates must have no felony convictions. The Department of Correction strictly prohibits hiring anyone who has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison or other institution, or who has been convicted of sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, threats, or coercion. The agency also considers incidents of sexual harassment when determining eligibility for roles involving contact with incarcerated individuals.

The Department of Correction strongly encourages bi-lingual applicants to apply. Research suggests that qualified women, Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color (BIPOC) may self-select out of opportunities if they do not meet 100% of the job requirements; we encourage individuals who believe they have the necessary skills to thrive to apply.

Equal Opportunity & Culture

The Commonwealth is an Equal Opportunity Employer and an Affirmative Action Employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, national origin, veteran status, or any other basis covered by appropriate law. Females, minorities, veterans, and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

When you embark on a career with the Commonwealth, you are offered an outstanding suite of employee benefits that add to the overall value of your compensation package. We take pride in providing a work experience that supports you, your loved ones, and your future.
