Shawnee Public Schools is dedicated to a mission where students are provided with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes to become lifelong learners, complex thinkers, and responsible citizens in an ever-changing global society. This commitment drives the environment at Shawnee Early Childhood Center, where we foster growth and development for our youngest learners.
As a Teacher's Assistant (Paraprofessional) at Shawnee Early Childhood Center, you will serve as a vital partner to the classroom teacher. Your primary goal is to help create an environment that improves and develops students' social, communication, and intellectual skills. Working under general supervision, you will support entry-level to semi-skilled duties that range from assisting with instruction to managing classroom logistics.
In this role, you will be the chief source of information for substitute teachers and a key support for student behavior management. Your day will involve a mix of educational support—such as preparing instructional materials, setting up equipment, and assisting with assignments—and operational tasks like record keeping, grading, and maintaining a clean classroom. You will also supervise students during non-instructional times, including recess, assemblies, and lunch periods, ensuring safety and engagement throughout the campus.
Success in this position requires a positive attitude, creativity, and effective problem-solving skills. You will be expected to maintain high standards of customer service, resolving issues with empathy while adhering to all safety guidelines, including the District Exposure Control Plan. Cooperation with staff, the public, and students is essential, as is the ability to adapt to the dynamic needs of an early childhood setting.
This is a 180-day contract position with hours established by the District. Performance evaluations will be conducted in accordance with Shawnee Board Policy on the evaluation of personnel.
