Port Corpus Christi operates as a premier maritime transportation hub within the energy sector, headquartered in Corpus Christi, Texas. As the largest port in the United States by total revenue tonnage, it serves as a critical leader in U.S. crude oil exports and a significant economic driver for the state and the nation. Strategically positioned on the western Gulf of Mexico, the facility functions as a primary gateway for both international and domestic maritime commerce, featuring a deepening channel designed to accommodate substantial vessel traffic.
The port maintains robust logistical connectivity through an extensive network including three North American Class-1 railroads and two major interstate highways. This infrastructure supports its role in moving America's energy resources efficiently. Management is overseen by a seven-member commission working alongside a dedicated staff to ensure operational excellence and strategic growth.
In 2021, the facility achieved record-breaking performance metrics, handling 167.3 million tons of cargo, a 4.7 percent increase from the previous year. This growth was largely driven by an 81.2 percent surge in liquefied natural gas shipments and crude oil exports averaging 1.76 million barrels per day, solidifying its status as a vital node in global energy supply chains.
