About the Role

This position serves the Cardiothoracic and Cardiovascular team within our Operating Room. The Surgical Technician First Assist plays a vital dual role, performing both first assisting and scrubbing duties. You will work under the direction of the RN and surgeon to assist in the direct care of patients undergoing surgical intervention.

In this capacity, you will support surgeons and nurses by selecting, setting up, and passing sterile instruments. Beyond standard scrubbing duties, you will perform significant surgical tasks under professional supervision, including positioning and prepping patients, opening and closing surgical sites, dissecting and removing tissue, implanting devices, altering tissue, providing hemostasis, suturing, and applying or removing dressings, splints, and casts. You will also administer local and topical agents as ordered and place IVs.

As a teaching facility, you will be expected to function independently while also having the ability to teach others. Your actions and communications will consistently reflect Kettering Health's mission, vision, values, and policies in all interactions with patients, families, and coworkers.
