Carson Valley Health is proud to be recognized as a finalist in the "Best Places to Work" for Northern Nevada in 2021, 2022, 2024, and 2025. We are dedicated to fostering a collaborative environment where healthcare professionals can thrive while delivering optimal patient outcomes.
As a Per Diem Surgery RN First Assistant (RNFA), you will practice in collaboration with surgeons and the broader healthcare team to perform safe operations with a focus on patient safety and efficiency. This role is designed for a nurse who can function independently within the limitations of their preparation and experience, acting as a vital extension of the surgical team.
In this position, you will not concurrently function as the scrub nurse. Instead, you will focus on advanced intraoperative responsibilities, including tissue handling, providing exposure, using instruments, suturing, tying, and ensuring hemostasis. You will assist in all surgical specialties at the direction of the attending surgeon, applying your judgment to implement medical plans of care and nursing interventions.
Your day-to-day involves reviewing patient charts for pertinent data, prepping surgical sites using aseptic techniques, and ensuring the safe transfer of patients to and from the operating room. You will also play a key role in maintaining a safe environment, performing sponge and instrument counts, and providing emotional support and comfort measures to patients and their families.
This is a Per Diem position with no guaranteed hours or set schedule. Per diem employees are offered work on an "as-needed" basis. In lieu of traditional benefits, a 15% premium is added to the hourly rate.
