This position serves as a specialized training track designed to prepare candidates for future opportunities in hog buying. You will begin your journey working directly in the livestock receiving alleys at our Columbus Junction plant. The program is structured to immerse you in the core operations of Tyson Hog Procurement, including carcass merit evaluation, harvest sheet analysis, weight dock procedures, and essential buying protocols.
As you progress through the training, your responsibilities will evolve from foundational tasks like sorting, counting, weighing, and permanently identifying livestock to managing the scheduling of deliveries. Upon successful completion of the program, you will be qualified to apply for open hog buying positions. This role also offers the opportunity to provide vacation relief for established buyers once you have achieved adequate proficiency.
This is an onsite role requiring full adherence to Tyson's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) regarding animal handling, safety, and USDA regulations. The work environment involves standing or walking for the entire shift and utilizing livestock driving tools and equipment. While minimal lifting is required for tools and identification equipment (weighing under 5 pounds), moderate to heavy force may be necessary to assist with compromised animals. Safety is paramount; all team members must wear hard hats, steel-toe boots, and hearing protection.

Candidates graduating in May 2026 are eligible, with employment contingent upon degree completion. Please note that this position requires availability for overnight travel as needed.
