The Floorhand is responsible for safely and efficiently providing the manual labor required to operate equipment on the drilling rig floor. Working under the close supervision of the Driller, this role is essential to the daily operations of the rig.
In this position, you will operate tongs and use drilling slips to assemble and disassemble drilling pipe and collars. You will also operate hoists to raise and lower equipment, personnel, hand tools, sledge hammers, and large pipe wrenches. The role involves a variety of maintenance and repair activities, including chipping, painting, the physical movement of equipment, mixing chemicals, and greasing, oiling, and washing equipment, walls, and floors.
Safety is a core responsibility. Every team member has the authority and obligation to interrupt an operation if they observe conditions or behaviors that could cause harm to people, assets, or the environment. You will be expected to identify hazards, report them to the Driller, and participate in pre-tour and pre-task meetings. You will also work to maintain good housekeeping across rig components, offices, and accommodations.
Candidates will be evaluated based on their ability to follow Company Management System policies and procedures. The role includes opportunities to propose improvements to practices and to train and mentor new Floorhands as they are assigned to the rig.
