The Floorhand is the backbone of safe and efficient operations on the drilling rig floor. This role provides the essential manual labor required to operate heavy equipment, working under the close supervision of the Driller. The position is critical for the assembly and disassembly of drilling pipe and collars, utilizing tongs, drilling slips, and hoists to raise and lower equipment and personnel.
Beyond equipment operation, the Floorhand plays a vital part in the daily maintenance and repair of rig assets. This involves a variety of hands-on activities, including chipping, painting, mixing chemicals, and the greasing, oiling, and washing of equipment, walls, and floors. The role demands physical agility and a commitment to maintaining a clean, organized work environment across rig components, offices, and accommodations.
Safety is the core of our operational philosophy. Every team member holds the responsibility, authority, and obligation to interrupt any operation if a condition or behavior is observed that could cause harm to people, assets, or the environment. This "Stop Work Authority" empowers every Floorhand to act immediately to prevent incidents.
The role requires active participation in pre-tour and pre-task meetings to identify hazards and report them to the Driller. Floorhands are expected to understand and adhere to the Company Management System, including all policies and procedures, while proposing recommendations for improvements to practices and safety protocols.
Candidates selected for this role will be expected to train and mentor new Floorhands as they are assigned to the rig, fostering a culture of continuous learning and team development. All incidents, equipment failures, and system abnormalities must be reported strictly according to Company procedures.
