About the Role
The Lead Carpenter at Pioneer Theatre Company serves as the bridge between artistic vision and physical reality. Reporting to the Technical Director, this position guides the scenic build process from technical drawings to stage-ready execution. You will oversee the fabrication, assembly, installation, and strike of all scenic elements, ensuring they meet artistic specifications, production deadlines, and the University of Utah's rigorous safety and operational standards.
Working Environment
This role is performed in a dynamic theatrical shop and stage environment. The work involves exposure to power tools, dust, noise, and heights, as well as outdoor conditions during load-ins and strikes. The position requires frequent lifting, bending, climbing, and extended periods of standing to maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment while supervising shop carpenters and over-hire labor.
