The Staff Attorney (Unaccompanied Children Program) serves as a vital advocate for the vulnerable, providing direct legal representation to clients through the St Frances Cabrini Center for Legal Assistance. This role exists to navigate complex immigration matters, ensuring that immigrants receive fair treatment and access to justice within the USCIS, Asylum Office, state and federal courts, and various Department of Homeland Security agencies.
In this position, you will work as part of a collaborative team alongside Legal Assistants, Paralegals, and senior leadership. Your day will involve a blend of high-stakes courtroom advocacy, detailed legal research, and community engagement. You will represent minors detained in ORR custody, draft critical legal motions and briefs, and prepare clients for interviews and hearings. Beyond the courtroom, you will drive community outreach through legal workshops and "Charlas" in both Spanish and English, educating prospective clients on asylum, deportation defense, and remedies for survivors of crime. You will also mentor legal assistants and interns, guiding the next generation of legal professionals.
