We are seeking a Staff Accountant to join a mission-driven nonprofit organization within the Finance, Data, and Technology team. This role is ideal for a proactive problem solver who will support senior finance leadership while taking ownership of maintaining accurate financial operations, grant tracking, and compliance in a nonprofit setting.
In this agile environment, the role extends beyond core accounting duties. The Staff Accountant will leverage a diverse skill set, contribute to cross-functional initiatives, and play a key role in advancing the organization's mission.
As a Staff Accountant, you will serve as a vital link between financial operations and the organization's broader goals. You will manage the full lifecycle of accounts payable and receivable, ensuring vendor onboarding and payment execution run smoothly. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to the stewardship of restricted funds, ensuring strict compliance with donor intent and nonprofit fund accounting requirements.
You will be responsible for the month-end close process, performing account reconciliations and variance analysis to support departmental budget management. Your work will directly inform financial analyses regarding grant utilization and program effectiveness. Additionally, you will act as a liaison during annual external audits, leading the preparation of financial records and ensuring readiness for regulatory scrutiny. You will also have the opportunity to develop and refine accounting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to strengthen internal controls and support organizational growth.
This is a full-time, permanent position based in Manhattan, NYC. The role requires an onsite presence five days a week.
