Northwest Youth Corps (NYC) was established in 1984 to provide teenagers and young adults with an education-based work experience modeled after the historic Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930s. Today, the organization serves over 1,000 youth and young adults annually across a four-state region, focusing on restoring critical habitat, building trails, leading volunteers, and fostering personal growth.
This placement is a partnership with the U.S. Forest Service's Willamette National Forest. The Willamette is a vast, complex ecosystem spanning over 1.6 million acres along the western slopes of the Cascades. Known for its volcanic peaks, forested ranges, and outstanding rivers, the forest manages a diverse program of work across four districts and an experimental forest. The Supervisor's Office is located in Springfield, OR, a community that is also home to the University of Oregon.
The Special Use Permitting Program Individual Placement offers a unique opportunity to support mission-critical work in Federal land management. You will work directly with the special uses program manager and Forest and District administrators to manage land use authorizations. This role blends office-based administrative tasks with field inspections, providing a comprehensive view of how the Forest Service balances public access with conservation.
Through direct training and hands-on experience, you will gain exposure to the full lifecycle of special use permits. The position is designed to immerse you in the operational realities of managing a large, complex forest, offering a day-to-day environment that varies between the Supervisor's office in Springfield and various locations throughout the Willamette National Forest.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Interviews will be conducted as qualified applications are received. The selection process is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background check, including both criminal history and driving history.
To apply, please submit a cover letter, resume, and contact information for three professional references. You must also complete the application form found at the Northwest Youth Corps job board, specifically selecting "Special Use Permitting Program Individual Placement."
Northwest Youth Corps is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
