The Program Manager for the HBCU Promise+ Center of Excellence is a term-limited role (at least 36 months) dedicated to leading strategic, grant-funded initiatives that support the preservation, sustainability, and long-term legacy of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Reporting to the Vice President of Community Engagement, this position sits at the intersection of higher education, community development, economic justice, and institutional preservation.
This role is designed to manage the operational success of the HBCU Legacy Program, overseeing complex, cross-functional projects that drive the implementation of four place-based HBCU cohort convenings and recurring meetings with HBCU executives. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment, translating leadership priorities into actionable work plans while managing multiple concurrent projects, stakeholder relationships, and grant-funded activities.
Self-Help is committed to creating economic opportunities for traditionally underserved communities. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to mission-driven work that directly impacts the future of HBCUs. The Program Manager will serve as a primary liaison between Self-Help, HBCU leadership, board members, elected officials, and external partners, ensuring that program activities align with the organization's core values: Mission Before Self, Service With Excellence, Embracing & Promoting Change, Results Not Credit, Diversity as a Strength, and Financial Sustainability for Mission Impact.
Candidates selected for this role will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to Self-Help's mission and the ability to work collaboratively across departments. The role requires flexibility to support evolving organizational needs, including the willingness to work beyond normal business hours and travel as needed for onsite meetings, convenings, and site visits.
