The Special Education Teaching Assistant at T.L. Hanna High School plays a vital role in supporting students with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities and autism. This part-time position is designed to provide quality services in a highly specialized setting, ensuring that individual students receive the academic, functional, and personal support they need to thrive.

In this role, you will partner closely with the classroom teacher to administer special programs, including literacy and reading initiatives. Your day will involve guiding students through independent and enrichment work, preparing instructional materials, and assisting with assessments. Beyond academics, you will be instrumental in fostering a safe and effective learning environment by supervising students during daily routines such as arrival, dismissal, lunch, and recess. You will also support the development of positive socialization skills and assist in behavior modification efforts to ensure a positive classroom atmosphere.

A key aspect of this position involves attending to the immediate health and basic care needs of students. This may include administering first aid, assisting with medical tasks like tube feeding or medication administration as instructed, and monitoring for illness or injury. You will also be responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of student records and participating in professional development programs to stay current with best practices.
