About the Role
The Anderson School District Five is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teaching Assistant to support students with various disabilities in a highly specialized setting at Midway Elementary School. This part-time position is vital for ensuring that students with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities and/or autism receive the academic, functional, and personal support they need to thrive.
In this role, you will work directly under the supervision of the school principal to assist individual students with their daily learning and personal care needs. Your day will involve presenting instructional materials, guiding independent work, and supporting the classroom teacher in administering special programs such as literacy and reading initiatives. You will also play a key role in maintaining a safe and positive learning environment by supervising students during transitions, assisting with behavior modification plans, and monitoring student health and well-being.
Qualifications & Culture
We are looking for an assistant who is familiar with Evidence-Based Practices for students with Autism, including visual supports, AAC strategies, social skills instruction, and ABA techniques. Experience working with students with autism and other disabilities is highly valued. Candidates should also possess knowledge of sensory strategies for self-regulation and deescalation techniques for crisis situations.
While an Associate's Degree is preferred, the most critical requirement is being "Highly Qualified" with a valid CPR/First Aid Certification. Annual training updates in Crisis Prevention Intervention and training in applied verbal behavior strategies are also preferred to ensure the highest standard of care.
Application Process
Interested candidates should apply directly to the Anderson School District Five. This position is part-time, non-exempt, and offers a pay rate of $20/hr. for approximately 25 hours per week. The term of employment covers 180 days if employed for the full school year, with annual evaluations conducted by the Principal.
