About the Role

As a Special Education Teacher at Perry Meridian High School, you will serve as a vital link between students with special needs, their families, and the broader educational community. Under the general supervision of the School Principal, your mission is to maximize the learning experience of every student by implementing district-approved curricula and fostering growth in academics, interpersonal skills, and daily living activities.

This role is designed to create a safe and optimal learning environment where individual needs are met through personalized strategies. You will act as a counselor and liaison, guiding students toward increased personal growth and self-understanding while ensuring effective communication between home and school. Your work involves a dynamic blend of assessment, planning, and direct instruction, requiring you to collaborate closely with administrators, teaching staff, and outside agencies to support each student's unique journey.

Day in the Life

Your day will be driven by the needs of your students and the collaborative nature of the school environment. You will conduct assessments and diagnostic examinations to identify learning issues, recommending corrective procedures to overcome barriers. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to participating in PPTs (Personalized Planning Teams) and developing Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) that tailor education to specific learning styles.

Beyond the classroom, you will assist in implementing IEPs and behavior management plans, serving as a ready resource for both students and parents. You will maintain accurate record-keeping systems, provide information to prospective colleges and employers, and encourage parental involvement in education. Professional growth is a core component of this position; you will engage in continuous learning through seminars, workshops, and research, while utilizing the NIET Best Practice Instructional Rubric to refine your lesson plans and participate in cluster professional development.

Hiring Process

This is a PEA certified position. Candidates must hold an Indiana Certification as a Special Education Teacher and an Indiana Teaching License applicable to the teaching assignment. A Bachelor of Arts degree in Special Education is required, and previous experience is preferred. Please refer to the official application portal for submission instructions and interview timelines.

Our Culture & Commitment

We are committed to fostering a cooperative working environment where professional relationships with higher learning institutions and the business community are valued. We encourage self-evaluation and professional growth, ensuring that our educators remain at the forefront of educational developments. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, striving to build a diverse and inclusive team dedicated to the success of all students.
