At McMahon Elementary School, within the Lewiston Public Schools RISE/Day Treatment programs, this Educational Technician position serves as a vital partner to Special Education Teachers. The role is dedicated to delivering personalized educational services tailored to each student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and Positive Behavioral Support Plan (PBSP). This is a high-engagement position where the technician provides constant support, ensuring students receive academic, social, and behavioral guidance throughout their entire school day.
The day-to-day reality of this role involves facilitating 1:1, 1:2, and small group instruction across all settings, including classrooms, lunch, recess, transitions, and transportation. Technicians are expected to maintain a safe, structured environment by implementing de-escalation strategies, managing complex learner needs, and adhering strictly to behavioral protocols. Success in this role requires a calm demeanor, the ability to advocate for student inclusion in general education settings, and a commitment to teamwork with teachers, BCBA clinicians, and administration.
To thrive in this environment, candidates must possess three years of postsecondary education (90 credit hours) or equivalent vocational experience, which is essential for Maine DOE Education Technician III certification and School-Based Behavioral Health Professional certification. While previous work in child care or education is preferred, the core requirement is the ability to follow complex treatment plans and apply principles of Applied Behavior Analysis and Safety Care.
Lewiston Public Schools fosters a culture of professional communication and safety. Teamwork is imperative, requiring staff to communicate clearly and professionally with students, families, and colleagues. The district values employees who can maintain focus in a dynamic, often loud environment while prioritizing the safety and well-being of every student.
Lewiston Public Schools provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other characteristic protected by law.
