Your mission is to maximize each student's learning experience across academics, interpersonal skills, and daily living activities. Working under the supervision of the Special Education Department Principal, you will implement district-approved curricula and create a safe, optimal learning environment tailored to individual needs.
This role is designed for educators who thrive on building strong connections between home and school. You will act as a liaison for families, ensuring effective communication and encouraging parental involvement in their child's education. Whether providing 1:1 or small group instruction for K-12 students, conducting diagnostic assessments, or assisting in the development of Individual Educational Plans (IEPs), your work directly impacts student progress and future opportunities.
Your day involves a dynamic blend of direct instruction, data analysis, and collaboration. You will conduct assessments to identify learning issues and recommend corrective procedures, while coordinating with outside agencies and state authorities as needed. A significant portion of your time is dedicated to working with administrators and teaching staff to align on student abilities and needs, ensuring that IEPs and behavior management plans are effectively implemented.
You will also serve as a resource for students and parents, guiding them toward increased academic skills. The role requires maintaining accurate record-keeping systems for student information, which may be shared with prospective colleges and employers. Additionally, you will contribute to the professional growth of the department by assisting in the orientation of new teachers and providing in-service training.
This position operates primarily from a home office but requires frequent travel to local student centers and occasional travel across the state for all-staff meetings. The work environment varies from controlled, quiet settings to spaces with moderate to loud noise. You may encounter challenging situations involving distraught individuals and must be prepared for exposure to various environmental factors, including communicable diseases. The role demands regular focus on computer screens and the ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 20 pounds when necessary.
