About the Role
The York School Department is seeking a dynamic, versatile Special Educator to lead our Intensive Needs Program at York Middle School. This classroom serves a neurodiverse cohort of students who require individualized support in social-emotional regulation, functional academics, and daily living skills. The program prioritizes the "whole child," aiming to break down silos in special education by merging behavioral support with life skills training to ensure student autonomy.
In this role, you will foster student independence and community inclusion. You will partner with families, navigating sensitive clinical conversations with empathy and data-driven clarity, while collaborating with general education colleagues to identify meaningful inclusion opportunities within the greater middle school community. The ideal candidate possesses a "Hybrid" mindset, viewing behavior as communication and committing to teaching the functional skills necessary to reduce those barriers.
