Our mission is to end family homelessness in the San Francisco Bay Area. Established in 1985, Hamilton Families is San Francisco's leading service provider to homeless families, with carefully designed programs to prevent homelessness, provide shelter and stability, return families to permanent housing, and support the well-being of children experiencing homelessness. We currently operate these programs across five sites in San Francisco and have partnered with organizations such as the Giants, Google, Salesforce, Twitter, Airbnb, government officials, and the wider Bay Area community.
The Hamilton Families Shelter Program in the Tenderloin provides a safe place to sleep, three meals a day, and critical social services to 50 families nightly. As a Shift Coordinator, you will serve as a management-level leader responsible for the successful operation of these residential services. You will collaborate with two other Shift Coordinators to supervise a team of 12-14 Residential Counselors, ensuring 24/7 coverage and a supportive environment for families in immediate crisis or on the city's shelter waitlist.
This role is vital to maintaining the shelter's safety and operational integrity. You will manage union-represented staff, coordinate crisis interventions, and ensure compliance with health, safety, and fire regulations. The position requires flexibility to work day, afternoon-evening, or overnight shifts, with shared on-call availability for consultation and occasional staffing needs. Your day-to-day involves fostering a culture of growth and resourcefulness while directly supporting families as they transition toward permanent housing.
We value diverse perspectives and believe in the potential for growth and development within our team. Our culture is built on being Resourceful, Helpful ("Yes, And"), and maintaining a Growth Mindset. We are Data Informed and deeply committed to EDI (Equitable, Diverse, and Inclusive) principles. Our commitment to welcoming all individuals creates a richness of viewpoints and a keen ability to challenge established thinking.
We encourage applicants to apply even if they feel they do not meet all the listed criteria. Your unique skills and experiences may be exactly what we need to succeed together. To apply, please submit your application through our official channels.
