The System Protection department oversees protection and control systems installed across a vast geographic area of California, owned by PG&E. Managing approximately 35,000 relays of various vintages, the team ensures the stability of PG&E's extensive 500kV network. Located strategically within the Western Electric Coordinating Council (WECC), the department relies on a highly skilled staff to maintain the reliability of the region's critical infrastructure.
This position serves as a pivotal point of contact for System Protection, bridging the gap between internal teams and external stakeholders such as interconnection customers and CAISO. You will oversee aspects of system and substation protection, control, and remedial action schemes (RAS) specified, installed, and owned by PG&E.
In this hybrid role, you will collaborate with multiple cross-functional teams, including EGI, Distribution Planning, Asset Strategy, Compliance, Operations, Planning, and Relay Test. Your work involves specifying, designing, and applying protective relay packages to ensure the reliable and secure operation of transmission and distribution systems, including generation and load interconnections. You will also develop testing procedures, perform fault and disturbance analysis, conduct system modeling, and maintain documentation and audits of protection equipment.
Candidates selected for this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the salary range, with the final decision made on a case-by-case basis considering specific skills, education, experience, and market value. The position is eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.
