L3Harris in San Diego, CA is seeking a Senior Specialist in Mechanical Engineering to support the design and manufacture of Tracking, Telemetry, and Command (TT&C) products for airborne and space-based applications. This role is vital for ensuring the reliability of critical systems that connect our defense capabilities across multiple domains.
In this position, you will partner with engineering teams, contract manufacturers, and cross-functional groups to design, draft, and document cable and wiring harnesses. Your work will involve creating detailed schematics and layouts that comply with rigorous industry standards, performing design verification, and preparing manufacturing documentation. You will play a key role in ensuring designs are producible, cost-effective, and aligned with evolving requirements.
This position operates on a 9/80 schedule. Employees work 9 out of every 14 days, totaling 80 hours, with every other Friday off.

Minimum of 6 years of experience in cable and wiring harness design. Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent. Strong knowledge of industry standards including IPC/WHMA-A-620, SAE AS50881, NASA-STD-8739.4. Excellent understanding of schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and harness layout. Experience with design verification and validation processes. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Effective communication and teamwork abilities. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Electronic packaging experience for aviation or space environments. Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM/DFMA) experience. Knowledge of PCB layout and design practices and standards. Familiarity with Electronics assembly and construction processes and techniques.
