About the City of Bellevue

The City of Bellevue is a vibrant community committed to exceptional public service, stewardship, integrity, innovation, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. We welcome the world and embrace the future while respecting our past. Our team works in an environment that is innovative, collaborative, and future-focused, dedicated to advancing the community vision and upholding the public interest.

About the Role

The Transportation Department is seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer to join the highly experienced professionals in the Right of Way division. Bellevue is recognized for its advancements in transportation approaches and technologies, and this role offers an opportunity to contribute to that legacy.

As a Senior Engineer, you will serve as a subject matter expert in code and procedure development, leading cross-disciplinary teams to advance new and improved processes. You will provide technical expertise and leadership in establishing right-of-way conditions, interpreting regulations, and coordinating construction activities to minimize community impacts. This position involves facilitating collaboration among internal departments, external agencies, developers, and the public.

You will act as the lead on the Right of Way Review Team, directing engineering work related to construction and other uses within the public right-of-way. Your day-to-day involves reviewing complex plans for public works, private development, and franchise utility projects to ensure compliance with city standards and safety requirements. Additionally, you will mentor and support the professional development of engineers, technicians, interns, and consultants, potentially supervising assigned staff.

Hiring Process

The City of Bellevue evaluates candidates based solely on the information provided in the online application. To ensure fair and equitable screening, all applicants are treated anonymously; names, addresses, and other demographics are redacted during the initial review. Consequently, resumes and cover letters should not be submitted at this stage.

To apply, please complete the online application form as fully as possible, including all supplemental questions found on the Questions tab of the job posting. Applicants who advance to the next stage may be required to provide a cover letter, resume, writing sample, and references.

Conditions of Employment

Successful candidates must establish employment authorization and identity at the time of hire. The City cannot sponsor work visas. All positions require the completion of reference checks, including at least one prior supervisor. Depending on the specific role, a criminal background check, commercial driver's license (CDL), or additional certifications may be required prior to starting employment.

Equal Opportunity

The City of Bellevue supports workplace diversity. All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply and will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, marital status, national origin, genetic information, disability, age, veteran status, or any other protected status.
