About Raytheon and Our Mission

At Raytheon, the foundation of everything we do is rooted in our values and a higher calling – to help our nation and allies defend freedoms and deter aggression. We bring the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of today's mission and stay ahead of tomorrow's threat. Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world.

About the Team

The Mechanical Analysis and Test (MA&T) Department is responsible for ensuring structural and thermal design robustness across the Raytheon portfolio of products. From preliminary concepts to fielded weapon system support, MA&T delivers innovative structural and thermal engineering solutions utilizing methods ranging from classical fundamental & empirically based techniques to state-of-the-art finite element methods. These solutions are complemented and validated by tests executed in a manner to ensure cost-effective yet technically balanced outcomes.

About the Role

Raytheon is seeking an experienced Senior Principal Structural Engineer to join the MA&T Department in Tucson, AZ. This role is critical for supporting all phases of programs, from development to production, with a specific focus on high-temperature structural materials such as refractory metals, Ceramics, and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs).

As a Senior Principal, you will act as a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME), defining the scope of analysis and testing required to meet program objectives. You will bridge the gap between classical hand calculations and detailed finite element analysis, while leading teams to meet milestones. Your work will involve presenting results to internal stakeholders and external government customers, acting as a peer reviewer, and helping to develop the department's technical processes and tools. This is an onsite position where you will work under general direction to solve complex problems within cost and schedule constraints.

Hiring Process and Application

Candidates must possess an active and transferable U.S. government-issued security clearance (Secret level) prior to the start date, as U.S. citizenship is required. RTX anticipates the application window closing approximately 40 days from the date the notice was posted, though this may vary based on candidate flow and business necessity.

Please note that as part of our commitment to maintaining a secure hiring process, candidates may be asked to attend select steps of the interview process in-person at one of our office locations, regardless of whether the role is designated as on-site, hybrid, or remote.

Culture and Commitment

RTX values Safety, Trust, Respect, Accountability, Collaboration, and Innovation. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status, or any other applicable state or federal protected class. RTX provides affirmative action in employment for qualified individuals with a disability and protected veterans in compliance with federal regulations.
