The Riverside County Department of Building and Safety is dedicated to providing citizens with courteous, efficient, and cost-effective services. The department's mission is to improve the quality of life and support orderly economic development through the management of grading, building inspections, and code enforcement within the integrated Transportation and Land Management Agency activities.
The Building and Safety Department is currently seeking qualified applicants for a Senior Plan Check Engineer to support the Plan Check Division located in Downtown Riverside, CA. This role serves as the advanced working and lead level classification within the Plans Examiner/Engineer series, reporting to a supervisory or manager-level position.
The Senior Plan Check Engineer plays a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with the California Building Standards Code (Title 24), County ordinances, and other related regulations. As a seasoned engineer with broad structural experience, you will perform a full range of plan review duties, interpreting codes and regulations to provide corrections and recommendations to the public, developers, and contractors.
In this capacity, you will review engineering reports, drawings, specifications, and calculations for buildings to ensure design accuracy and completeness. Your responsibilities include analyzing complex plans to determine loading on roofs, walls, and floors, sizing structural members, and verifying adequacy against earthquake, wind load, and material stress requirements.
Beyond technical review, you will act as a mentor and technical resource to other Plans Examiners/Engineers. You will assist in the development of departmental policies and procedures, provide leadership in code interpretation, and may oversee the work of less experienced engineers or technical staff on assigned projects. This position requires professional licensure as a Structural or Civil Engineer and involves direct interaction with subordinate engineering personnel.
