About the Role

This position serves as a critical link between clinical teams and the pathology department, operating under the supervision of the Chief of Pathology and the Laboratory Administrative Director. The primary mission is to ensure the accurate preparation, handling, and documentation of human surgical specimens and autopsies, facilitating precise histological examination and diagnosis.

In this role, you will work directly alongside pathologists to manage the entire lifecycle of a specimen—from receipt and verification to gross description, dissection, and final processing. The position requires a high degree of technical judgment to handle complex procedures and may involve supervising and training Pathology Technical Assistants. You will be responsible for maintaining a safe, compliant, and efficient workflow in a fast-paced laboratory environment, ensuring that all specimens are logged, processed, and disposed of with strict adherence to safety protocols and departmental standards.

Kaiser Permanente is looking for candidates who meet the following requirements: Two years experience as a Pathology Technical Assistant; AA in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology, or equivalent education with at least 60 semester hours including six semester hours each of chemistry and biology and twelve semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical technology from an accredited institution; OR previously qualified or could have qualified as a laboratory medical technologist on or before February 28, 1992; OR on or before April 24, 1995 must have been a high school graduate or equivalent and have either graduated from a HHS approved medical laboratory training program or successfully completed an official U.S. military medical laboratory procedures training course of at least 50 weeks duration and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician); Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language; and Basic computer keyboard skills & word processing of 20 wpm.
