The Senior Field Representative, California serves as a strategic leader in identifying, developing, and completing a diverse portfolio of conservation real estate projects across the state. This role is critical to advancing The Conservation Fund's mission by securing ecologically sensitive tracts, conservation easements, historically significant sites, recreational trails, and mitigation lands for federal, state, local, and private partners.
Working cooperatively with landowners, government agencies, and community partners, you will shepherd projects from initial concept through acquisition. You will act as a bridge between the California State Director, Western Region teams, and a wide network of stakeholders—including tribal governments, private non-profits, and the private sector—to secure funding and drive conservation outcomes.
Your work will be a dynamic blend of relationship building, fieldwork, and strategic negotiation. You will spend significant time engaging with priority landowners to initiate projects and negotiating purchase and sale contracts. A substantial portion of your time will be dedicated to raising project funds from public and private sources, preparing budgets, and managing due diligence activities such as appraisals, surveys, and title work in close coordination with the legal team.
You will also coordinate project closings and the transfer of lands or easements to partner entities. This role requires flexibility to work in both office settings and outdoor environments, traversing all terrain in various weather conditions to visit conservation sites. While the position is based in California, it involves travel of less than 25% overnight per month, often with short notice and in inclement weather.
Candidates interested in this role should submit their application through our official careers portal. The selection process typically involves a review of qualifications followed by interviews with the California State Director and relevant team members to assess both technical expertise and cultural fit.
The Conservation Fund is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to building a diverse team that reflects the communities we serve and the landscapes we protect.
