About the Role
The Senior Field Representative, California, serves as a strategic leader in identifying, developing, and completing a diverse portfolio of conservation real estate projects across the state. This role is critical to advancing The Conservation Fund's mission by securing ecologically sensitive tracts, conservation easements, historically significant sites, recreational trails, and mitigation lands for federal, state, local, and private partners.
Working cooperatively with landowners, government agencies, and community partners, you will shepherd projects from initial concept through acquisition. You will build and manage relationships with state, regional, and local funding agencies, land management bodies, tribal governments, and the private sector to identify priority conservation lands. Your work involves negotiating purchase and sale contracts, raising funds from public and private sources, and managing due diligence activities including appraisals, surveys, and title work in close coordination with the legal team.
About the Team
You will operate in coordination with the California State Director and Western Region teams, collaborating with internal staff in development, finance, and communications to ensure projects align with broader organizational goals. This role requires a high degree of autonomy, demanding the ability to maintain your own schedule, shift priorities quickly, and demonstrate flexibility while working positively with conservation professionals, leaders, and the public.
Work Environment
This position is based in California and involves a hybrid work environment. Work is performed in both office settings and outdoor locations in all weather conditions. Visiting conservation sites requires the ability to traverse various terrains. The role includes an estimated travel requirement of less than 25% overnight per month, with additional day travel necessary, often with short notice and in inclement weather.
