The Vallejo Water Department is a dynamic organization engaged in growth and positive change for the benefit of its customers and community. As an Enterprise Fund, the Department is fully supported by ratepayer revenues, allowing for a dedicated focus on long-term infrastructure investment, regulatory compliance, and reliable service delivery. The Department provides potable water to approximately 151,000 customers through a highly complex system, including multiple raw water sources, three treatment plants, 600 miles of distribution pipe, and 27 pump stations. It holds California State certification as a Treatment-5/Distribution-5 system.
We are seeking two Senior Engineering Technicians to serve as collaborative members of the Water Resources and Engineering Division. This advanced journey-level position supports the stewardship of the City's water resources and the delivery of its capital improvement program. You will be a flexible, detail-oriented professional thriving in a multidisciplinary environment, performing a range of technical duties including drafting, design, construction inspection, and office engineering.
The role requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively across multiple functional areas, including construction projects, development review, and operations & maintenance support. You will coordinate projects with city, state, and federal officials, lead construction staking layouts, and ensure projects are built to plans and specifications. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to long-term water supply planning and the protection of the City's water rights, securing sustainable water for future generations.

Applications will be screened for qualifications the week of June 15, 2026, followed by scoring of supplemental responses by subject matter experts the week of June 22, 2026.
The most qualified applicants will be invited for an Oral Panel Interview, tentatively scheduled for the week of July 13, 2026. These interviews are weighted at 100% of the candidate's score, with a minimum passing score of 70% required to be placed on the Register of Eligibles. Candidates on the eligible list may be referred to the department for final interviews to fill the two vacancies.
