As an Electrical Senior Designer, you will serve as a staff designer handling assignments of intermediate complexity. In this position, you will provide essential technical knowledge and perform design work under the direct supervision of the Discipline Lead Engineer or Design Supervisor. Your primary focus will be preparing and checking designs using 3D modeling and 2D Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) automation tools.
You will act as a key technical liaison, coordinating issues across other disciplines, project management, vendors, and clients. Your work must strictly adhere to the Project Quality Plan, approved project scope, cost baselines, and schedule requirements. Beyond design creation, you will support equipment and material procurement by reviewing vendor submittals and assist with construction administration by responding to requests-for-information and managing field changes.
Your day involves a blend of detailed design work and active field engagement. You will utilize proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and 3D modeling to originate and produce drawings with minimal supervision. A significant portion of your time will be spent performing advanced and intermediate design calculations, including lighting, raceway sizing, wire sizing, voltage drop, and panel board sizing.
You will also be expected to walk down field systems with minimal guidance, interpreting field direction to generate minor design details and modify existing drawings. In this capacity, you may direct junior drafters, ensuring that all outputs meet the rigorous standards required for industrial projects. Your role requires a keen attention to detail and the ability to work in a time-conscious manner to meet project deadlines.
We are seeking a professional with an associate degree in a related technical field and a minimum of ten years of work-related experience. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in drafting within engineering fields such as electrical, instrumentation and control, or communications. You should have demonstrated experience providing Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) services on industrial projects, specifically within the U.S. Department of Energy, federal government agencies, nuclear facilities, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology sectors.
Proficiency in Bentley MicroStation and Intergraph Smart3D (S3D) is essential. Familiarity with Intergraph SmartPlant Electrical and Review software, along with a deep understanding of nuclear quality assurance programs (ASME NQA-1), will be highly valued. You must have a working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local codes and standards, including Department of Energy orders.
To apply, please submit your resume highlighting your experience with EPC projects and specific CAD/3D modeling tools. Candidates with practical field experience and knowledge of commercial material availability and costs are encouraged to apply.
