About the Role
GovCIO is seeking a highly skilled Senior Application Developer to join our team in Fairfax, VA. In this hybrid role, you will design, build, and modify application software critical to federal operations. You will be instrumental in modernizing legacy systems into cloud-native, containerized Java applications while ensuring strict compliance with federal security standards and cross-domain solution (CDS) policies.
This position is vital for supporting mission-critical features that facilitate secure data exchange across multiple classification levels. You will collaborate closely with system architects, cybersecurity teams, and government stakeholders to implement robust solutions that meet the rigorous demands of the Department of Justice and defense contracting environments.
The Day-to-Day
Your work will span the entire software development lifecycle, from writing clean, well-documented code to executing unit and integration tests. You will manage system interfaces, integrate commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products, and resolve complex integration issues and vulnerabilities. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to troubleshooting technical issues across development, staging, and production environments, as well as participating in Agile ceremonies to drive sprint planning and technical reviews.
You will also support modernization efforts by refactoring legacy code and utilizing container technologies like Docker and Kubernetes. Ensuring interoperability and data integrity while adhering to FISMA, NIST, and RMF compliance guidelines will be central to your daily contributions.

Candidates selected for this role must possess an active Secret clearance and the ability to obtain and hold DEA suitability. The interview process will assess your technical proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, and secure coding practices, as well as your experience with cross-domain architectures and federal compliance standards.
