Founded in 1831 as the Virginia Historical Society, the Virginia Museum of History & Culture (VMHC) is the oldest museum and cultural organization in Virginia. As a private, non-profit entity, we care for a renowned collection of more than nine million items representing the far-reaching story of Virginia. Whether igniting a passion for the study of the past, empowering an interest in civic engagement, or providing an introduction to the Commonwealth, we offer meaningful experiences for all. Your work here helps bring Virginia's story—past, present, and future—to life.
The Security Officer is a highly visible role within the Operations & Finance division, serving as the first point of contact for visitors and staff. This position is designed for someone with an authentic interest in the museum's mission and a passion for preserving and sharing Virginia history. You will be responsible for providing security for VMHC properties throughout the buildings and grounds, ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone on campus. The role requires a professional who can maintain composure under pressure while projecting an excellent level of hospitality to our guests.
