As a Security Officer at Olathe Hospital, you will serve as a vital first line of defense, ensuring the safety and security of patients, visitors, and staff during the night shift (6:00 PM – 6:00 AM). This role is designed for individuals who can demonstrate strong judgment and competence in a high-stakes healthcare environment. You will be responsible for operating a wide array of security equipment, including monitors, radios, and access control systems, while maintaining a professional presence that supports the hospital's mission of care.
Your day-to-day involves conducting internal and external patrols to identify safety hazards, managing visitor access, and responding to emergency codes. You will act as a resource for the community, assisting with directions, vehicle issues, and escorting individuals as needed. A critical component of this position is the ability to de-escalate situations and apply appropriate physical intervention when combative patients or visitors pose a risk to themselves or others. You will also handle sensitive duties, such as assisting funeral home representatives with the release of deceased patients.
Upon hiring, you will undergo comprehensive training to ensure you are fully competent in the use of TASERs and body-worn cameras. You will also complete training in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) usage and achieve certification through the International Association of Hospital Safety & Security (IAHSS). The role requires a commitment to continuous learning, including participation in First Responder Training and maintaining a passing score on security psychological evaluations.
