The School Baker in Baker, BC-06 plays a vital role in the Hawaii State Department of Education's food service program, ensuring that students and staff receive high-quality, freshly prepared baked goods. This position is essential for maintaining the daily meal service schedule and supporting satellite delivery operations. The role combines the precision of professional baking with the responsibility of managing production records, inventory, and team coordination within a school environment.
Your day begins by reviewing production records and securing the necessary ingredients and equipment to meet the day's baking needs. You will be responsible for accurately weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients according to standardized recipes, performing mathematical calculations to adjust yields for specific serving sizes. From preparing dough for bread, rolls, and muffins to baking pizza crusts and other items, you will oversee the entire baking process from scratch.
Beyond the kitchen, you will set up serving counters, portion menu items for satellite meals, and serve students and staff directly. The role also involves maintaining a sanitary work environment by cleaning and sanitizing all utensils, equipment, and dining areas. You will manage leftovers by labeling, storing, or disposing of them according to safety protocols and assist in completing monthly inventory records.
As a leader in the kitchen, you may direct and instruct cafeteria helpers, assist in training new employees, and supervise serving operations at satellite schools. You will also participate in staff meetings and complete required training hours mandated by the United States Department of Agriculture to ensure compliance with food safety standards.
Applicants must meet all education and experience requirements as of the application date. If you are claiming Temporary Assignment (TA) experience to meet qualifications, you must verify this by attaching a TA History Report, a signed letter from your supervisor detailing duties and dates, or copies of your signed SF-10 Forms.
