RN, Registered Nurse - ICU Pediatric

About the Role

This position is designed for a competent Nurse who practices independently within a clinical setting, demonstrating a comprehensive awareness of complex situations. The role focuses on providing both routine and complex care while maintaining a strategic view of long-range goals. You will be expected to manage clinical contingencies effectively, making appropriate assignments and delegating tasks to other care providers to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Aligned with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, you will utilize the nursing process—assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation—to address the increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and their families. Your responsibilities include administering medications and treatments according to protocol, monitoring for side effects and effectiveness, and documenting patient history and care details. Additionally, you will assess learning needs and provide essential education to patients, family members, and caregivers.

Hiring & Onboarding Process

Newly hired experienced RNs are required to attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire. You will be precepted by a designated trained staff member, and your initial onboarding will be validated through the successful completion of organizational entry competency validation and a Pediatric Services-specific competency validation. All annual competency verification requirements must also be completed.

For candidates who do not yet hold all required certifications, grace periods apply based on your experience level:

• Experienced Associates (those with at least one year of acute care clinical experience in a similar service line within the past three years) have shorter grace periods for certifications such as ACLS, PALS, and NRP (typically 30 days).
• New Graduates & Experienced Associates New to the Specialty are granted extended grace periods (e.g., 90 days for ACLS/PALS, 18 months for TNCC/TCAR) to obtain necessary credentials.

All associates must obtain required certifications within the designated time frames in accordance with the CHRISTUS Health License, Certification and Registration Verification Policy.
