This position serves as a competent Nurse within a clinical setting, practicing independently while demonstrating a comprehensive awareness of all relevant situational aspects. The role involves providing both routine and complex care, with a strong focus on long-range goals and plans. Nurses in this capacity are expected to continuously develop their ability to manage clinical contingencies, make appropriate assignments, and delegate tasks to other care providers to effectively manage the clinical environment.
Aligned with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, the role utilizes the nursing process—assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation—to deliver care. The position addresses increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and their families. Responsibilities include administering medications and treatments according to protocol, monitoring for side effects and effectiveness, and documenting patient history, symptoms, and care provided. Additionally, the role involves assessing learning needs and providing education to patients, family members, and caregivers.
All newly hired experienced RNs are required to attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire. New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member, with initial on-boarding requirements validated through the successful completion of organizational entry competency validation and Emergency Department-specific competency validation. Newly licensed RNs may participate in a residency program or other specific orientation, with skills and competency completion achieved with the preceptor at the bedside and documented through the program's tracking software.
In accordance with the CHRISTUS Health License, Certification and Registration Verification Policy, associates are required to obtain necessary certifications within designated time frames. Grace periods vary based on experience level:
