RN, Registered Nurse - Cardiovascular Surgery

About the Role

As a competent Nurse within the OneCHRISTUS clinical setting, you will practice independently while demonstrating a comprehensive awareness of complex patient situations. This role is designed for professionals who can manage both routine and intricate care scenarios, balancing immediate clinical needs with long-range goals. You will serve as a leader of self, others, or leaders, navigating contingencies with confidence and delegating effectively to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Aligned with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, you will utilize the nursing process—assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation—to address the increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and their families. Your day-to-day responsibilities include administering medications and treatments according to protocol, monitoring for side effects and effectiveness, and providing essential education to patients, families, and caregivers.

New nurses are supported through a structured onboarding journey, including a mandatory New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire. You will be paired with a designated preceptor to guide your initial on-boarding, ensuring you successfully complete organizational entry competencies and Perioperative Department-specific validations. We value growth and require the completion of all annual competency verification requirements to maintain the highest standards of care.

Hiring and Credentialing Process

We welcome candidates with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and at least one year of experience in a related nursing specialty. While a Perioperative RN Residency or recent experience in an OR/Perioperative setting is preferred, we offer structured grace periods for credential acquisition to support your transition:

• Experienced Associates (those with at least one year of acute care clinical experience in a similar service line within the past three years) receive a 30-day grace period for ACLS, PALS, and Fetal Heart Monitoring, and 60 days for TNCC and TCAR.
• New Graduates and Experienced Associates New to the Specialty receive extended grace periods, including 90 days for ACLS and PALS, and up to 18 months for TNCC and TCAR.

All associates must obtain required certifications within these designated time frames in accordance with the CHRISTUS Health License, Certification and Registration Verification Policy.
