The Finance Department is a fast-paced, diverse, and customer service-focused operation responsible for the assessment and collection of City taxes, cash flow management, payroll processing, procurement, and the management of the City's pension plans. Operating with a budget of $16.1 million and 109 FTE positions, the department's goal is to treat all employees, citizens, and business owners professionally, with fairness and compassion.
As a Retirement Specialist within the Pension Administration Division, you will serve as a personable and collaborative partner to employees, beneficiaries, and retirees. This role exists to ensure accurate and compassionate guidance through the complexities of retirement planning. You will counsel employees on service credit and eligibility, research benefit information, and perform calculations for various retirement estimates. Your work involves preparing documents for submission to the Virginia Retirement System (VRS) and the City's plans, while also providing essential staff support to various retirement boards. Working under the general supervision of the Retirement Administrator, you will act as a liaison between retirement vendors and the City's workforce, ensuring clear communication and administrative precision.

Professional experience specifically in public sector retirement plan administration; ability to develop and lead employee education programs related to retirement; professional experience managing institutional investments; advanced skill with Microsoft Excel (e.g. pivot tables, vlookup); a professional certification relevant to the field (e.g., CEBS, RPA, QPA, CPC); five to six years of experience in retirement plan administration.
