About the Role
As a competent Nurse at CHRISTUS Health, you will practice independently within a clinical setting, demonstrating a comprehensive awareness of complex situations. This role is designed for professionals who can manage both routine and intricate patient care while contributing to long-range goals. You will be expected to navigate clinical contingencies with confidence, making appropriate assignments and delegating tasks to other care providers to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Aligned with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, you will utilize the nursing process—assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation—to deliver high-quality care. Your responsibilities extend beyond clinical tasks to addressing the psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and their families. You will administer medications and treatments according to protocol, monitor for effectiveness and side effects, and document patient history and care details meticulously.
A key component of this position is education. You will assess learning needs and provide guidance to patients, family members, and caregivers, identifying necessary resources and issues. Additionally, you are expected to embody the OneCHRISTUS Competencies, serving as a Leader of Self, Others, or Leaders depending on your experience level.
Onboarding and Development
We are committed to your success and professional growth. All newly hired experienced RNs are required to attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire. You will be paired with a designated, trained preceptor for initial on-boarding. This period includes validating organizational entry competencies and completing a MedSurg-specific competency validation at the bedside.
Newly licensed RNs may participate in a specialized residency program or orientation track. Skills and competency completion are achieved through bedside preceptorship and documented via the program's tracking software. All associates must also complete annual competency verification requirements to maintain their standing.
Credential Grace Periods
To support your transition, CHRISTUS Health provides grace periods for obtaining required certifications based on your experience level:
- Experienced Associates (those with at least one year of acute care clinical experience in a similar service line within the past three years) are granted specific timelines for certifications such as ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and NRP.
- New Graduates & Experienced Associates New to the Specialty (those without the required recent experience) are provided extended grace periods to obtain these same certifications.
Basic Life Support (BLS) is required at the time of hire with no grace period. All other certifications must be obtained within the designated time frames outlined in our License, Certification, and Registration Verification Policy.
Work Schedule
This is a full-time position with a shift schedule from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
