The Pulmonary Function Supervisor serves as a vital bridge between clinical excellence and operational efficiency within the Pulmonary Function Lab. Reporting to the Director or Assistant Director, this role is designed to support the department through a blend of administrative leadership and deep clinical expertise in both pediatric and adult pulmonary function testing and exercise testing.
In this position, you will foster a collaborative environment of respect among colleagues, physicians, nurses, and the broader healthcare team. As an educational resource, you will coordinate training for clinical affiliates and disciplines, ensuring the organization maintains high standards of patient care and diagnostic accuracy. The role is central to driving operational improvements, program planning, and quality initiatives while ensuring the safety of both patients and staff.
Your day will be defined by active leadership and engagement. You will manage daily operations and provide direct supervision to clinical staff and PSRs, ensuring staffing levels align with fluctuating care requirements and patient referrals. A key part of your workflow involves "going to GEMBA" (the actual place of work) to identify problems, uncover opportunities, and implement solutions in real-time.
You will act as a culture ambassador, listening to feedback, resolving conflicts, and inspiring an open communication environment. Whether you are delegating tasks, managing inventory, or collaborating with BioMed and IT to ensure equipment functions properly, your goal is to enhance the department's culture and patient experience. You will also serve as a clinical expert, stepping in to assist with scoring, testing, and scheduling when needed, while ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including The Joint Commission standards.
