As an Optometrist at University of Utah Health, you will provide clinical services to patients at the Parkway Health Center in Orem, Utah. In this capacity, you will exercise full responsibility and authority over the medical functions of your practice, diagnosing and treating eye diseases, defects, and injuries. Your work will directly impact patient care by performing comprehensive eye exams, prescribing and fitting eyeglasses and contact lenses, and managing conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration.
You will serve as a vital link in the vision care continuum, ensuring that all clinical activities align with the scope of practice and quality standards of your training and specialty. Beyond direct patient care, you will play an active role in the academic mission of the university by teaching medical and professional students and facilitating student rotations when appropriate.
Reporting to the Medical Director of Vision Services and the Department Administrative Director, you will join a team dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of medical care. As an employee of University of Utah Health, you are expected to uphold the institution's policies, procedures, and professional ethics. Your contributions will support the clinic's operational needs, including participating in administrative duties, meetings, and training programs essential to the delivery of clinical services.
This position requires flexibility to meet the needs of the clinical practice location. You will be expected to participate in night, weekend, and holiday call coverage as determined by the Medical Director. Additionally, maintaining accurate documentation of on-call messages is a mandatory requirement of the role. You will also be responsible for executing necessary documentation to participate in Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care contracts, ensuring compliance with federal programs and standards.
Candidates must possess a Doctorate of Optometry and a valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Utah. A U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency number without suspension or revocation is required, along with the ability to maintain professional malpractice liability coverage. Applicants must meet all qualifications to participate in government-funded health care programs or demonstrate equivalency, such as substituting one year of education for two years of related work experience.
