This position serves as a critical guardian of the chain of custody, responsible for the secure receipt, processing, storage, and safekeeping of property and evidence collected by law enforcement personnel. The role exists to ensure the integrity of evidence from the moment it enters the facility until its final disposition, protecting all items from contamination, theft, or loss.
In this capacity, you will act as the primary liaison between the department and other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. Your day-to-day involves inspecting evidence for compliance with packaging standards, cataloging items for easy retrieval, and managing high-value recoveries. You will also handle sensitive inquiries from both police officers and community members, coordinate the destruction of unwanted evidence in accordance with the law, and testify in court regarding the disposition of property when necessary.
The role requires a high degree of ethical integrity and the ability to operate specialized equipment, including forklifts and motor vehicles, to move and store recovered property safely. You will also maintain the physical security of the storage facility and ensure all documentation accurately reflects the status of every item in custody.
Candidates selected for this opportunity will undergo a rigorous selection procedure, which includes a panel interview and may involve a practical exercise. Successful applicants must satisfy several necessary special requirements, including a criminal background check, credit check, driving record check, pre-employment medical evaluation, polygraph exam, and tuberculosis test.
