About the Role

This recruitment establishes a list of qualified candidates to fill current vacancies for Level III Program Specialist positions, which may be either temporary full-time or permanent full-time. These roles are designed to assist higher-level specialists by performing assignments of limited scope and complexity. The position involves conducting studies and analyses of specific project segments, participating in program monitoring and quality assurance activities, and providing technical consultation on state and federal laws and regulations to operating staff.

Work is performed independently under general supervision, with completed recommendations reviewed for consistency with state and federal requirements. Employees in temporary positions may gain membership in the civil service upon satisfactory completion of an initial six-month probation period, becoming eligible for promotion, transfer opportunities, and most benefits afforded to permanent employees.

Hiring Process & Application Instructions

This recruitment will remain open until 30 applications are received; therefore, immediate application is strongly encouraged as the posting may close at any time. The examination for this recruitment is conducted on an unassembled basis, meaning the score is based on an evaluation and rating of your education and experience. It is critical that your employment application provides a clear and detailed description of the duties and responsibilities for each position held.

In-person interviews and/or further testing in Hawaii may be required at the discretion of the hiring agency. If required, applicants who meet minimum qualifications and are referred must be available to participate in person at their own expense.

The Department of Human Resources Development (HRD) will use electronic mail to notify applicants of important information regarding the status and processing of their applications. Applicants must ensure their contact information is current and secure, as the department is not responsible for delays if emails are not received or checked in a timely manner.

The State of Hawai'i complies with federal and state disability laws and makes reasonable accommodations for applicants and employees with disabilities. If you require reasonable accommodations to complete an application, take pre-employment testing, or participate in the selection process, please call 808-587-0936 for assistance.
