About the Team

At the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE), we go beyond merely offering jobs – we actively seek out extraordinary individuals to join our team. As the primary agency entrusted with overseeing K-12 public education in Oklahoma, we are steadfastly devoted to making a meaningful impact on the districts and students we serve. Our exceptional team is renowned for its commitment to superior customer service, innovation, and unwavering dedication to shaping a brighter future for students across the state. We work hand-in-hand with over 500 school districts and maintain a close partnership with the legislature, ensuring that each Oklahoma student receives the exceptional education they deserve.

About the Role

A Literacy Coach serves as an instructional leader who supports effective reading development through deep knowledge of how students learn to read. This role leverages a multisensory, explicit, systematic, and structured approach to literacy instruction, applying research‑based methods to identify and support struggling readers through targeted intervention plans tailored to individual needs. The Literacy Coach ensures compliance with the Strong Reader's Act and related literacy legislation, collaborating closely with special education teams to align practices with IEPs, 504 plans, and state literacy standards.

By building strong partnerships with educators, administrators, families, and community organizations, the Literacy Coach helps design and implement comprehensive, evidence‑based literacy programs that promote equitable learning for all students. Additionally, this role remains current on state and national literacy policies, guiding schools and districts in continuous improvement efforts that strengthen instructional practices and advance literacy outcomes.

Day in the Life This position is 90% field-based, requiring frequent travel to assigned coaching schools. You will navigate varied weather conditions and diverse environments to support educators directly in their classrooms. While the role involves significant travel, it also includes time in a climate-controlled office setting for data analysis, planning, and team meetings at the State Department of Education.

Hiring Process

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without sponsorship. Successful candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment background check and possess a valid driver's license from a U.S. state or territory to perform necessary job-related travel. The position is supported by SB 1778 and HB 4030.

Equal Opportunity

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our organization. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status.
