Under the supervision of the Branch Executive Director, the Program Director will plan, organize, and implement outdoor activities and programs, including day camp, at the Lower Shore Family YMCA in Pocomoke, MD. This role is designed for a candidate with a genuine passion for the outdoors, teaching, and adventure programming who can effectively engage with a variety of ages and ability levels.
The Program Director serves as a steward for the safety, well-being, and personal growth of staff, campers, and participants. Beyond daily operations, the position is responsible for the broader scope of outdoor education, camp management, and youth programming, ensuring that every activity aligns with the organization's mission.
The YMCA is guided by Christian principles of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. As a Program Director, you will incorporate and model these core values in every interaction. The role requires fostering a team environment that encourages open communication regarding concerns or issues with members, children, parents, and colleagues. A primary goal is to create an environment where all participants feel respected and safe, both physically and emotionally.
Candidates selected for an interview will be expected to demonstrate their ability to manage high-stress situations and lead diverse groups. The selection process includes verifying qualifications, including a valid driver's record and relevant certifications in lifeguarding, CPR, First Aid, and AED. Successful candidates must also be willing to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and complete Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire.
